But I don't see those faults as I play Terra very frequently and competitively with a group of friends. Tension to race for the tech track is gone as well since everyone can get points as long as they are at a certain level of the track, instead of fighting neck to neck with people.Ĭomponents and artwork in Terra is more appealing too!įor all those faults of Terra addressed by werfmark, I have to agree with him for casual players. It's more like a typical euro game where you're trying your best to get the most points and everyone is playing their own game. Player interaction is better in Terra, Gaia felt more like a solitaire game most of the time. There's enough tech tiles to grab, there's no competition for almost anything I do. There's a lot of space to expand, mistakes you make are more forgiving. Some rules in Gaia felt like it was just to add more complication for the sake of it.

The rules are not as complicated as Gaia, yet it still has the same amount of depth for me. Terra is definitely a more streamlined, clean and elegant design. TM has the honour of getting a 10 from me while Gaia probably 8.5.

My point of view is more pro Terra Mystica than Gaia Project. I'm very happy with their service - I've heard that this issue was a problem with some people's copies but the support more than makes up for it (and if you keep the pieces under a large weight for a day or two then it's really hardly noticeable). I contacted Asmodee and they have already shipped a replacement. One note: a few of my player board pieces started warping slightly. For now I will be playing this as a two-player with my SO. I also had an absolute blast and cannot wait to find some more people to learn and play this with me. the very cleverly-designed automa (on almost the easiest difficulty) by 2 points. The game itself was drier, as expected, and challenging. I really wish that there was a better reference sheet included with the game but there is a great one on BGG that I am printing now on cardstock that will be a permanent addition to the box. I probably spent half my time in the rulebook, but by the 4th round (out of 6) it all clicked for me.

I was also looking for something that I could play solo ( Viticulture: Tuscany and Spirit Island being my other two). I was looking for a heavier Euro game set in space with a considerable amount of replayability. A two-player game is hosted on seven sectors.Picked this up last week and got around to playing the automa last night to learn the rules. The playing area is made of ten sectors, allowing a variable set-up and thus an even bigger replay value than its predecessor, Terra Mystica. To do all of that, each group has special skills and abilities. In addition, Gaia planets can be used by all factions for colonization, and Transdimensional planets can be changed into Gaia planets.Īll factions can improve their skills in six different areas of development - Terraforming, Navigation, Artificial Intelligence, Gaiaforming, Economy, Research - leading to advanced technology and special bonuses. Gaia Project is a new game in the line of Terra Mystica.Īs in the original Terra Mystica, fourteen different factions live on seven different kinds of planets, and each faction is bound to their own home planets, so to develop and grow, they must terraform neighboring planets into their home environments in competition with the other groups.
